Lake Tekapo, New Zealand

Dark Sky Project

A stunning facility in the heart of Takapo offering an immersive dark sky experience.
The new Dark Sky Project headquarters on the edge of Lake Takapo is offering the most advanced astro-tourism experience in New Zealand. With an overall project budget of $11 million and boasting the restored Brashear Telescope – a masterpiece of Victorian engineering – the Dark Sky Project is bringing the wonder of the night sky to those visiting the region. The building was designed by Sheppard and Rout and the interior designed by ThoughtFull.
To create a point of difference for the Dark Sky Project, custom solutions were searched out to connect the interior to its stunning location. Inside the Dark Sky Diner, boasting spectacular views day and night, the Plug chairs with wooden seat have been painted in bold red and black colours.
